The "Bimble Bash" is a local 10k trail race which is advertised as the longest 10k you'll ever run. This years event will take place on Sunday April 6th.
Today I ran a portion of the Bimble Bash route, with my GPS in one hand and my trail map in the other I took off behind a group of Bimblers. It wasn't long before they were out of sight and I was once again alone in the woods.
Now all I have to do is remember what Mr. Bimble told me: Follow the Green Trail to the Violet Trail to the Blue Trail to the Red Trail back to the Blue Trail and I should be somewhere near were I started. As I Joddled ( Jog/Waddle) through the woods I learn some new lessons:
1. How far behind real runners I really am.
2. Stop looking at my watch, I can't go any faster anyway.
3. Watch out for ice coded ledge, (OUCH)
4. The Quarry Trails have weaker trees than the Westwood Trails.
5. Wicking really works.
6. All trails run in 2 directions.
7. If I make it back, I get to have coffee and a bagel.
8. No matter who you sit with at coffee, we still talk about running.
9. Bimblers are really special people.
10. What a great life I have.
Thanks for waiting for me,
Shags

Regarding point #8:
There was a comment in "The Spirit of the Marathon", where one of the runners observed: "When we run, we talk about everything but running, but when we socialize, we talk about nothing but running"?
When I am not thinking/talking about running, the topic is usually food. I don't cook much, but I was going to cook for "company" last night, but plans fell through. By that point I was SO looking forward to my planned Pumpkin Risotto, I made it just for myself. If I hadn't run for 2+ hours at Westwoods, I would have felt (a little) guilty! I did show SOME restraint. The recipe was designed to feed 8, or 2 hungry ultra-runners. I think I have enough leftover for dinner...
